Final result of my "Not so traditional Christmas Pudding"

How i adore this Christmas pudding!

Finally it’s that time to see whether it worked out or not and it really has. I preserved the pudding simply in its mould and looked at it every week to see if it’s still ok. I kept it on a cool dark place.

I was kind of a Christmas pudding hater when i tasted it for the first time last year, but now i simply LOVE it! On December 2 i wrote you that i was making my very first Christmas pud , while i missed up "Stir Up Sunday". And now i was so excited on how it turned out on Christmas day. Well, i tell is amazing and even my husband likes it haha. I steamed it for another 1 1/2 hour and it came out nicely damping and soft. I even did not have to grease in my mould, since it’s non stick and it was. It just slides out of the Masterclass mould!

Marcato Atlas Wellness Pasta Machine

If you love food, you will love this machine!

Every New year i think about my life and last year i decided to make all my food myself, including pasta and that was the best decision ever. 

A few years ago i was in italy and i discovered that the true taste of pasta and pizza is the one you make yourself. Texture is different and you choose what you put on it. So much fun!
2014 made me think about health and we all eat unhealthy things, you never know what’s in your food. And i would like to get my vitamins :)

So i started to buy myself such a cheap pastamachine at “Kruidvat" for only 9 euro. I was convinced that would give me the best pasta, unfortunately the machine almost fell appart. it was so cheaply made that it was worthless and the pasta tasted like iron. That was not it!

Then i tried to make pasta with a wooden roller, but since i’m completely new to this, it did not work quite well. Then i went searching on the net where to find a good machine and the big question was......which machine?

I realized i had to pay more money for it, cause cheap is.....well yeah “cheap”.
But i did not want to spend too much money to it and i found 2 brands that are the leader among the pasta world  and are very affordable >> Marcato and Imperia.

Chicken Tikka Masala

It’s easier than you think

As long as i like to eat indian food, my favorite dish is Chicken Tikka. I ate it several times in restaurants, in bowls and “fresh" from the supermarket. I just wanted to make it myself for once. Cause why on earth put they raisins in it in the supermarket???! even when they say it’s freshly made and it’s tasting day.......èèk! Also, for me it was not spicy at all. I like this in it’s full taste. Spicy!

As a hobby cook, for me this was a challenge. Though i found a good book with a great recipe inside, and as usual i added my own twist to it. I know what’s inside and will certainly not contain raisins!

It’s important to choose chicken breast without skin. I know, for once this recipe includes meat. I actually don’t eat meat a lot. But sometimes i like to make something challenging and different from what i used to do.

TIP : If you want to have the full taste in the chicken, it’s better to make the marinade the day before and cover the chicken with it. let it marinade in the fridge over night.

Fish Gratin with drunk shrimps

Something for fridays i believe

Fish is healthy....well i hope it is, these days you never know. Though i rather eat fish than meat.
This gratin does not contain any cheese, but you can add some if you want for a crustier top.
I must say that i was surprised of the taste. i’m not much of a vegetable eater, i never was. Still i wanted to try this out. Of course i added my own touch to a simple recipe.

You can make this easy on a friday evening before heading to the telly. Now in december we get to see all Star Wars films every friday till Christmas. That is so cosy and even more cosy with a good meal on my lap :) Next week part 5!

Not so traditional Christmas pudding

It’s that time of the year where we all look forward to,
and why shouldn’t we?

December! This is the time for absolut baking! No excuses, no exceptions.........hehe. It’s better to bake now, than with the holidays itself. You will have it ready by then and you can still enjoy your family dinners or whatever you are planning. Normally this pudding is made 1 week before the first advent, as they call it Stir up sunday.

“Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord....” The words remind churchgoers to start stirring up their plum pudding so it has time to mature before Christmas Day.
A tradition the whole family can get involved with, the idea is that everyone should get a turn to mix and make a wish while they do so. Some households put coins in the mix, with the finder promised wealth, health and happiness for the coming year.
